Not everything in life is centered around school or career preparation. To ensure that your whole self is taken care of, here is a range of resources for your use. If you have questions or need assistance in accessing any of these resources, please request an advising or student support counseling appointment using the request forms to the right.
Academy of the Redwoods SEL Groups
As the Student Support Counselor, Natalie Heckman facilitating and implements Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Groups at the Academy of the Redwoods. She has partnered with Lupita Reynosa, the Student Support Mentor at the Fortuna Union High School District Wellness Center, to facilitate these groups. This year, groups surround Confidence and Self Esteem, Stress Management, Team Building, and Healthy Relationships. Each group lasts four sessions and takes place during Tier period. Sessions include a curriculum portion and a hands-on interactive activity related to the specific day’s topic. SEL groups are advertised through the Daily Announcements that are sent out to students every day. Each group is open to all students based on interests and needs. To join, students are instructed to send Natalie an email (nheckman@fuhsdistrict.net) expressing their interest in participating.

Fortuna Union High School District Wellness Center
The district has created a Wellness Center on the Fortuna High School campus to serve all district students (this includes Academy of the Redwoods Students). The center is located in the portable building by the 14th street parking lot. The center will provide many services including, but not limited to, mental health, tutoring, translation, counseling, and links to county services.
